New Website Helps Sports and Exercise Professionals to Connect and Create New Opportunities

(PRLEAP.COM) iStadia.com, a new website aimed at sport and exercise professionals and business owners is helping cut through the social networking confusion and connect with each other and potential customers. Imagine this scenario: A football coach meets a sport psychologist and they work together to improve the teams performance. One of the players suffers a bad injury to their knee and the psychologist introduces the coach to a top surgeon that could help. The surgeon fixes the knee but recommends that the player see a specialist strength coach to avoid relapse, and makes another introduction. The football coach is impressed with the strength coach and offers them a full-time job.

Thats social networking. We have been doing it forever, but it has been increasingly recognised as one of the most effective ways of developing new business or finding a job. The World Wide Web has allowed social networking to be accelerated through sites such as Facebook and MySpace, but when there are millions of members from college kids to pop groups and even less salubrious inhabitants to wade through, these sites can seem like an irrelevant waste of time. Now a specialist site has been developed with the aim of helping sport and exercise professionals and businesses cut through the chaos and connect with each other and, importantly, potential customers.

iStadia.com, which was launched this summer, has been designed with two principles in mind: you can grow your network by being part of a focused community; and if you post good content to the wider world your network will grow faster.

The idea came from a meeting of two sport psychologists, Rob Robson and Keith Irving. Keith wanted to create a network of sports consultants, while Rob had experienced success on a smaller scale with his own sport psychology website. His modest collection of sport psychology articles had attracted over 100,000 visits over a three year period and was convinced that by combining content with social networking they could create something very powerful.

While business networking sites and sports-related social networks already existed, iStadia.com seems to be the first to focus on the professional sport and exercise market. Rob added, there is a voracious appetite on the web for information about fitness and sports performance. Athletes and coaches from recreational to elite levels are looking for something extra. This provides a fantastic opportunity to sport and fitness related businesses and professionals to promote themselves online. They can reach a much wider audience on a community site like iStadia than they could on their own.
