Salt Lake City, UT – Short of surgery, chemical peels are all the rage for delivering dramatic results. Clients, particularly as they age, are requesting peels to minimize lines and wrinkles, even out skin discoloration, and revive a healthy glow on their face.

A menu of peel options is available to estheticians and medical estheticians. In Aesthetic VideoSource's new "Advanced Chemical Peels" series, Malinda McHenry, a licensed cosmetologist, esthetician and instructor, demonstrates the detailed steps for eight different peels.

This DVD series helps aestheticians properly assess clients’ peel requests and choose the appropriate peel, based on a client’s Fitzpatrick type (skin's ability to produce pigment), Glogau classification (skin elasticity), and desired results. In all four volumes, McHenry also walks aestheticians through basic chemistry regarding pH and percentages of the peeling agents, products and supplies, benefits and contraindications, skin analysis, timing based on erythema and client feedback, neutralizing, recommended treatment series, expected results, and post-treatment care.

In Vol. 1 – Alpha Hydroxy Peels – McHenry focuses on Lactic Acid and Glycolic Acid Peels. She also discusses working with first-time clients and sensitive skin (Run time: 55 mins.). In Vol. 2 – Beta Hydroxy Peels – McHenry demonstrates how to apply Salicylic Acid Peels (ideal for treating acne) and Jessner’s Peels (applied under a Wood’s lamp), and how to deal with open lesions and permanent makeup (Run time: 53 mins.).

In Vol. 3 – Microdermabrasion Peels – McHenry shows how to apply Salicylic Acid Peels (under a Wood’s lamp) and Lactic Acid Peels with microdermabrasion. A Micro-Sal peel is ideal for oily skin, deep scars, and hyperpigmentation. A Lactic Micro peel expedites the benefits of multiple lactic peels. She also discusses how to deal with raised moles and cold sores (Run time: 1 hr. 6 mins.). In Vol. 4 – Medical Grade Peels – McHenry demonstrates the application of medium-depth Physician-Strength Glycolic and TCA (Trichloroacetic acid) Peels in a medical spa environment (Run time: 1 hr. 7 mins.).

"Not all peels work the same way," says McHenry. "A thorough understanding of each type of peel and their unique components can help you achieve the best possible results for your client."

“Malinda McHenry is definitely one of the premiere experts in the field of aesthetics,” says Shirley Erickson Gorospe, president of Aesthetic VideoSource. “As an instructor and as a practicing aesthetician, she provides tips and insightful knowledge, as well as the individual steps involved in providing peels.”
