New Book "Math Doesn't Suck" Helps Girls See There's Nothing Ungirly About Math

(PRLEAP.COM) Danica McKellar, best known for her role as Winnie Cooper on The Wonder Years and Elsie Snuffin on The West Wing, is an actress and mathematician respected for her work in both fields. Her new book, Math Doesn’t Suck: How to Survive Middle-School Math Without Losing Your Mind or Breaking a Nail, was released on August 2, 2007.

"You don’t have to give up being girly to pursue math and to be good at math," said McKellar in an interview with online math teacher Gisele Glosser. McKellar’s personal publicist sent Glosser a copy of the book just before it hit the shelves nationwide on August 2nd. Her publicist also arranged for Glosser to interview McKellar by telephone on August 15.

The interview enabled Glosser to learn more about McKellar’s new book and her acting career. An advocate for math education, McKellar has spoken before Congress about the importance of women in mathematics. "McKellar wants to inspire young girls to succeed in math with her new book", said Glosser. "The book does an excellent job of explaining middle school math concepts by connecting them to things that really interest young girls."
