Audacity(R) Wins SourceForge.net Community Choice Award for "Best Project for Multimedia"
SourceForge.net’s CCA awards recognize open source projects with the most supportive community following. Finalists were chosen in 11 categories. Audacity and other category winners were announced at a SourceForge.net event during the O’Reilly Open Source Convention (OSCON, http://conferences.oreillynet.com/os2007/).
Audacity is a free, easy-to-use audio editor and recorder. It has been downloaded more than 27 million times from its SourceForge-hosted site. People use Audacity to:
* Record live audio.
* Convert tapes and records into digital recordings or CDs.
* Edit and mix Ogg Vorbis, MP3, and WAV sound files.
* Cut, copy, splice, and mix sounds together.
* Change the speed or pitch of a recording.
Audacity is developed by a group of volunteers (the Audacity Team) and distributed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). Vendors are free to bundle Audacity with their products, or to sell or distribute copies of Audacity under the GPL.
