Avisca Fine Art Gallery presents “Pilgrimage from Scattered Points”, an exhibition of mixed media works from the series of the same title by Francks Francois Décéus September 7 – 21, 2007.

Born in Haiti in 1966, Décéus is a member of the Haitian diaspora who has taken his Haitian heritage with him while adapting it to the circumstances and visual vocabulary of contemporary art. Over the past fifteen years of artmaking, his work has marched chronologically from his childhood in Haiti, through his immersion into his new urban community of Brooklyn, NY, and in this new series of work, to a conceptual vision of humanity. Described as “his richest, most subtle artistic accomplishment to date”, the current series reflects on the idea of a collective universal consciousness and the commonly shared experiences that lend coherence to the human experience.

Francks Francois Décéus has been enjoying considerable public recognition and a growing reputation. Among his achievements are his inclusion in the recently published book, “100 New York Painters”, an extensive survey of significant New York Painters; his selection by the Brooklyn Museum to participate in the 2004 exhibition “Open House: Working in Brooklyn”, an exhibition considered to be the largest survey ever devoted to contemporary Brooklyn-based artists; and a recent month-long residency at a major printmaking Atelier in Gentily, France, where he continued to develop his skills within the tradition of printmaking, having earlier studied printmaking at the venerated Bob Blackburn Printmaking Workshop in New York City.

The exhibition opens with a reception on Friday September 7 at 6:00 pm. The reception is free and open to the public. Avisca Fine Art Gallery is located at 507 Roswell Street, Marietta, Georgia 30060.
