ORLANDO, FL: August 27, 2007 – TuDiabetes.com, a new online community for people touched by diabetes, makes an impact worldwide, growing at a rate of over 10% each week. The site, launched by Manny Hernandez (www.askmanny.com) in March 2007, was originally directed to Hispanics touched by diabetes, however quickly found a much larger reach. Currently, TuDiabetes.com has close to 800 members from all over the world, with the United States, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, Venezuela and Argentina among the countries represented. It receives over 1,000 visits per day, with each visit lasting an average of 12 minutes.

There is no cost to join TuDiabetes.com. Members of the site follow a simple process to create their profile page, which they can later customize including a profile photo and additional details about themselves. Members can also participate in diabetes-related discussions in the Forum, share their thoughts and ideas in their blog, and post their personal photos and videos.

Many groups within the community have also been naturally formed which has proven to build an even deeper connection among members. Groups include: "Parents of Kids with Type 1," "Athletic Diabetics," "Christian Diabetics," "Geeks with Diabetes," "College Students with Diabetes,” and “Diabetes and Sexuality (for women)."

The feeling of many of the members about TuDiabetes.com can be summarized by the words of Billy, an Australian member: "After making quite a few friends through TuDiabetes.com, I no longer feel like I have to do this diabetes thing on my own!"

Also created in early August 2007, is the Spanish-only sister site, EsTuDiabetes.com, aimed at Spanish-speaking diabetics in the US, Latin America, Spain and throughout the rest of the world.

"As someone with type 1 diabetes, I know the importance of having a support group of people to discuss the daily struggles and questions you have about diabetes," said Hernandez. "The community is not only for those who have diabetes. It is open to anyone who has a family member, friend or partner living with it, allowing us to help each other, educate ourselves and share the steps we take to stay healthy while living with diabetes."

TuDiabetes.com has been garnering recent media attention, with the LA Times and The Seattle Times mentioning the site in an article about Ning.com (the platform on which TuDiabetes.com runs): "TuDiabetes.com, a Ning-powered site for people with diabetes, calls itself 'MySpace on insulin.'"

"I look forward to the continued growth of TuDiabetes.com and EsTudiabetes.com,” added Hernandez. "With almost 250 million diabetics worldwide and 7 million new cases every year, I am sure we will be busy helping people connect while raising awareness about diabetes for a very long time to come."
