Rocky River is Going to the Dogs

ROCKY RIVER, OH (September 13, 2007) – Devoted dog owners in Rocky River will soon have a new destination. Style Mutt, a dog boutique, will hold its grand opening Saturday, September 22nd from 10 AM to 6 PM. The grand opening will feature refreshments for people and pets alike, goody bags and ice cream for the first 50 furry guests, and doggie pedicures for donations to the Cleveland Animal Protective League (APL).

The grand opening will be part of a street event to benefit the Cleveland APL, which will feature animals to adopt, fashion shows, giveaways, and a live broadcast by Cleveland’s Q104. Local gallery owner Mitchell Sotka organized the shops of Old River for the event.

“At Style Mutt, we invite our customers to bring their pets in and relax,” said Pam Alerine, the store’s owner. “We have something for everyone, from pets to their owners, and we’ll be offering a number of events like holiday parties and social mixers in the future.”

Style Mutt offers Ohio State and Cavaliers merchandise for dogs, as well as dog-themed clothing for people. The “Mutt Munchies” snack bar will be open daily, featuring doggie ice cream and an in-store dining area where dogs can enjoy their treats and owners can relax for a few minutes.

The store also includes a section in memory of Alerine’s son Kyle, a tireless advocate for the so-called “bully breeds” who owned two American Bulldogs until he passed away last year. The section features t-shirts, stuffed “ballerina bulldog” toys, and dog treats, with 100 percent of the profits from sales of these products going to Cleveland animal rescue organizations the Cleveland APL, Love a Stray, and a Cleveland bulldog rescue group.

Style Mutt founder Pam Alerine spent five years as president of Cleveland pet products manufacturer PetZone, where she developed a keen understanding of the needs of pets and their people. She plans to add doggie day care services to Style Mutt’s offerings, pending approval by Rocky River’s Planning Commission. Style Mutt is located at 19136 Old Detroit Road in Rocky River.
