Krav Maga and Stop Cancer Join Forces in 2nd Annual Fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness Saturday, October 6th 2007
(
PRLEAP.COM) (Los Angeles, CA – September 14, 2007) – On Saturday, October 6th, Krav Maga Worldwide, Inc. will join STOP CANCER, a non-profit organization dedicated to funding cancer research, in the fight against breast cancer by offering self-defense seminars in over 40 cities in the United States and Canada. The Krav Maga Fights CancerTM seminars will focus on two of Krav Maga’s most important principals - personal safety and a fighting spirit.
The goals of the event are threefold: 1) to teach people to protect themselves, 2) to raise $50,000 to help find a cure for breast cancer, and 3) to honor the memory of Marni Levine, the highest ranking female Krav Maga instructor in the world, who died on August 31, 2006 after a five-year battle with breast cancer.
The four-hour self defense seminars, taught by certified Krav Maga Worldwide instructors, will be held at over 40 Krav Maga Worldwide Official Training Centers across the United States and Canada. The cost to participate is $49, with 100 percent of the money being donated to Stop Cancer. All funds will be matched by receiving hospitals.
Marni Levine was a fourth degree black belt, a founding partner of Krav Maga Worldwide, a 37 year old mother of two, and a true fighter. She made it her goal to teach men, women and children how to protect themselves through training the body and the spirit.
Marni’s death inspired the worldwide community of Krav Maga instructors and school owners to instigate the 1st Annual Krav Maga Fights Cancer event in October 2006. Over $66,000 was raised, and after being matched by receiving hospitals, a $100,000 grant was awarded to City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center in honor of the Marni Fund.
"Marni was an exceptional human being and we are proud to honor her with this worldwide event," said John Whitman, president of Krav Maga Worldwide. People all over the world will learn to fight for their lives, and by participating will also be fighting for the lives of the hundreds of thousands of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer every year."
Krav Maga Worldwide schools participating in this event can be found in major U.S. cities, including Los Angeles, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, San Antonio, Washington, and many more. A complete list is available at
