Lake Oswego, OR- Inc. magazine announced today that Buena Vista Custom Homes has ranked as one of the top 500 fastest growing businesses in the entire nation.

Each year, Inc. magazine produces the "Inc. 500, a list of the nation's fastest-growing private companies. Companies are ranked according to the percentage growth of their revenue from 2003 through 2006.

Buena Vista's success has been well chronicled locally and nationally within the building industry, but today's announcement is the first such national award given to honor the company's growth within all types of business.

In 2005, Oregon Business Magazine and The Portland Business Journal both named Buena Vista Custom Homes as the fastest growing business in Oregon. Later in 2005, Builder Magazine, named Buena Vista as the fastest growing builder in the nation. In 2005, 2006, and 2007, they received the Portland Metro Home Builder Association's "Building Excellence Award."

"We are so honored to receive this recognition. Inc is such a prestigious publication and their standards for this award are rigid, so it's a great honor to be selected among such great companies nationally," said Roger Pollock, founder and president of Buena Vista Custom Homes. "I am so proud of our team. Achieving an honor like this it all starts with your people."

Roger Pollock: Builder Takes an Aggressive Path to Launching Company

Buena Vista is a relatively new business, founded by Pollock in early 2002. Roger Pollock, however, is no stranger to success in the building industry. In the 1990s, Pollock built RMP Properties into Portland's largest home builder before selling to national home builder D.R. Horton Homes of Dallas, Texas. Pollock launched Buena Vista after the four year non-compete clause in his sale agreement with D.R. Horton.

Roger Pollock's vision for the company was refined during this hiatus from building. In his previous building company, RMP offered low priced starter homes. With Buena Vista his thought was that the market really needed a builder to offer luxury amenities at lower price points. Pollock, who thought that floor plans needed to be more conducive to the family demographic, worked with his designers to develop some spacious floor plans offering larger rooms as opposed to designer rooms that are often seldom used by families.

Another hurdle Pollock cleared was acquiring land in the best locations in Portland. "People within the industry told me that I would not be able to find the land. It's hard not to listen to this type of advice, but I believe that if you challenge the best realtors and give them an opportunity to sell the land, they will find it for you," said Pollock.

Pollock used the production style building strategies he learned in his previous company to build the luxury style homes he wanted to build with Buena Vista. His thought was that by using the production style building methods and buying power in his purchasing savings could be passed along to the buyers in the form of more attractive pricing. He also wanted to offer homes with more standard amenities than other home builders in the area.

Buena Vista Custom Homes has a reputation in the marketplace of offering a larger home with more luxury standard amenities than any other area builder. The Buena Vista home plan designs have been extremely popular with buyers. Buyers who decide on their purchase prior to construction are able to personalize kitchens, bathrooms and the configuration of rooms in addition to paint colors and other designs. "Buyers love the ability to inject their personality into their homes, Buena Vista's flexibility in customization has allowed buyers to do just that," noted Prudential Northwest Properties Realtor, Mike Wiltshire.
