Chilling out this Summer

The forecasters are predicting a sizzling summer, the children are off school and many families are looking forward to an annual holiday, but is a week or two in the sun enough to de-stress you for the whole year?

Probably not. But there is a way of combating the stresses and strains of modern life all year round, and the chances are, it’s available virtually on your own doorstep! The answer to deep relaxation is Reflexology.

Reflexology is an ancient therapy that is now one of the most popular complementary therapies in the UK, enjoyed not only by celebrities and royalty but people just like you and I. It is based on the theory that there are reflex points on the hands and feet that correspond to all of the organs, glands and parts of the body. A reflexologist uses a special thumb and finger technique to work these reflexes, the result is amazingly relaxing and also improves circulation and encourages the body to become more balanced.

Jennie Levick, National Director of the International Institute of Reflexology® (UK) says: “Over 75% of illnesses can be attributed to stress and by using Reflexology to relax, some symptoms may just disappear! Reflexology has been known to help with a great many common health conditions. We usually recommend an initial course of 4-6 weekly treatments, followed by regular ‘maintenance’ sessions to keep the body in tip-top condition.”

Reflexology is often confused with foot massage or a form of beauty therapy. True reflexology is a clinical treatment, where the practitioner will undertake a full health and lifestyle consultation before offering a customised treatment programme. Reflexologists who train with the International Institute of Reflexology® are subjected to in-depth anatomy and physiology study alongside practical work and students have to achieve several hundred hours of training in order to pass exams. Registered members hold the letters MIIR (Reg’d).

So if you’re stressed out, or struggling to cope with hay fever or migraines in the heat of the summer, stay at home and put your feet in the hands of a Reflexologist.
