A Different Kind of Success Story

The Holland Avenue Boys: A Success Story by Howard E. Fischer (with Teachers'-Facilitators' Guide, Pointers for Parents, and Holland Avenue Boys’ Creed) is based on the acclaimed film of the same name that played on over 50 PBS stations around the country.
This is a different kind of success story - success is not always about wealth or fame. For most, success is achieved through personal growth, satisfying careers, comfortable lifestyles and rewarding relationships. It is hoped that this book will change some habits, nudge people of all ages in the right direction and encourage them to explore ways to make their lives successful. Success stories teach success.
The book also includes a Teachers’-Facilitators’ Guide. This is a valuable aid for teachers, parents, grandparents, organizations that aid youngsters and religious groups with youth programs. It is a way to teach values and to help youngsters on the road to success. There are ideas for discussion or essays and the kind of activities that can demonstrate how to achieve success in school and life.
A section entitled Pointers for Parents and Grandparents provides suggestions as to how parents and grandparents and other caregivers can reinforce the learning process at home. There are suggestions for interaction with the youngster at home.
In addition there is the Holland Avenue Boys’ Creed. This is a poignant and revealing poem that can be copied and mounted on the wall so that it can serve as a regular reminder of the kind of daily outlook that will aid in the youngsters’ development. It can result in the mantra of the young.
