Mouser Electronics Expands Fairchild Portfolio with New Products

September 20, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
Mouser Electronics, Inc., known for its rapid introduction of the newest products, today announced the availability of Fairchild Semiconductor’s new TinyBuck™ buck regulators and optically isolated MOSFET gate drivers.

Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) is a global leader in power analog and power discrete technologies, delivering energy-efficient solutions for electronic systems.

“Mouser’s core competency is to rapidly stock and market new products for our design engineering customers,” said Mike Scott, Mouser’s Vice President of Active Products. “Fairchild’s release of these new buck regulators and MOSFET gate drivers allows us to create added value and deliver a time-to-market advantage for the engineering community’s new product designs.”

Fairchild’s FAN 2106 TinyBuck™ DC-DC buck regulator is an easy-to-use, cost- and space-efficient synchronous buck solution that enables designers to solve high-current requirements in a small area with minimal external components.

An industry first, the 5mm x 6mm, 6A, 24V-input integrated synchronous buck regulator allows external programming of clock frequency, current limit, and loop response for optimization and flexibility in selecting output filter components and transient response.

Fairchild’s advanced BiCMOS power process, combined with a thermally-efficient MLP package provides low RDS(ON) internal MOSFETs and the ability to dissipate high power in a small package. The highly-integrated, low-profile, small footprint facilitates greater design flexibility and saves approximately 50 percent board space over other discrete solutions. The FAN2106 achieves up to 95 percent power efficiency by converting input of 3V through 24V input voltages to output voltages as low as 0.8V, while delivering up to 6A output current.

The new family of high-frequency optically isolated MOSFET gate drivers compliments Fairchild’s industry-leading power portfolio by providing designers with a complete milliwatts-to-kilowatt power solution. Capable of driving up to 30A/1200V MOSFETs for industrial applications, the FOD3180 (2A) and FOD3181 (0.5A) quickly turn the power MOSFET on and off to limit power dissipation and exhibit a 200ns (max) rise/fall time rate. These power-optimized products are ideal for increasing system efficiency and reliability in applications such as solar inverters, high-performance uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), DC/DC converters, and plasma display panels (PDP).

Additional reliability features of these devices include a 5000V isolation rating that meets most safety certification standards, undervoltage lockout that protects the MOSFET by keeping it off until the voltage reaches the enabled state, as well as coplanar construction that provides fail-safe insulation.
