BCC Software Announces Release of Mail Verifier Plus

September 21, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
Rochester, NY — BCC Software, a BÖWE BELL + HOWELL company and a leading developer of high-performance solutions for professional mailers, announces the release of the Mail Verifier Plus (MVP), a sampling tool that provides fast and accurate in-plant measurement of a mailpiece’s likelihood of meeting key deliverability standards set by the United States Postal Service®.

Designed by BÖWE BELL + HOWELL (creators of the MERLIN® evaluation system used by the USPS®) and itself the commercial version of a product developed for the Postal Service™, the MVP uses a state-of-the-art imaging system and advanced software technology to examine and calculate paper and print reflectance as well as verifying that Postal barcodes (including PLANET®, POSTNET™ and Intelligent Mail® barcodes) are within Domestic Mail Manual (DMM®) mail automation specifications.

Using the MVP within a printing or mailing operation, it becomes simple to spot-check individual pieces before the entire job leaves the shop. This helps eliminate the guesswork that naturally occurs when submitting a completed mailing to the Post Office™, and greatly reduces the risk of USPS non-acceptance of a job that can result in lost time and costly re-printing or even additional postage assessments.

The MVP was released at Graph Expo 2007, September 9-12 at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL, where it was named “Worth a Look” by judges as being “especially important for niche markets and selected groups of printers or converters.” Many of the several hundred exhibitors at Graph Expo submitted new or innovative products to be considered for special attention during the show.

While a working MVP unit was on display at Graph Expo, sample mailpieces volunteered by attending vendors revealed a surprisingly high number that would likely not pass USPS MERLIN inspection criteria. “Only one of the mailpieces with an Intelligent Mail barcode passed, which indicates the importance of using in-house technology to identify barcode problems as early as possible,” said BCC President K. Jon Runstrom. “By indicating the likelihood of acceptance in the USPS system in advance—while printers and mailers still have an opportunity to correct errors affecting deliverability—the MVP offers truly unique and invaluable functionality.”

The Mail Verifier Plus is the only commercially available product able to perform a full range of MERLIN-compliant barcode and reflectance validation checks. Whether it’s analyzing an applied barcode, a printed piece on which a barcode has yet to be added, or even a sample sheet destined for printing and/or addressing, it can make a dramatic difference in any print or print-to-mail operation.

Pricing for the Mail Verifier Plus is $5,400, discounted to $4,900 through October 31, 2007. Each unit comes equipped with software, a high-performance USB cable, and a 90 day warranty. Extended warranties are available.
