Ken Medernach Releases for publication his new book of sailing and “water based” adventure in On the High Seas at Lulu.com

"On the High Seas" is a collection of short stories based on true life
experiences involving the author’s life on the water.

The first tale chronicles the adventures of a young boy who accepts his father’s challenge to rebuild an old boat and then plan and execute a 3 day solo voyage from Savannah south to the Half Moon River in Liberty County come along and relive the experience of this eleven year old, his friends and family. See how planning and preparation make for a successful adventure.

The second story recounts the adventures of three young men who build a raft, and “Huck Finn style” undertake a trip form Jesup to Darien on the rain swollen Altamaha River. Three start but only two end up in Darien, read to find out what happened to Pete and where is he today? Regardless of preparation, the contingencies of the unknown play a huge role in the eventuality of misadventure.
In the third tale two experienced sailors take a day off from their jobs for a “nice” winter’s day sailing. They should have gone to work instead, the weather turns bad and the day almost ends in a catastrophe. Read why having the attitude that you are invincible is a dangerous attribute, regardless of your level of training and skill.

Ken Medernach wrote On the High Seas to inspire young people to seek their dreams, but only after they have adequately prepared themselves for the task. The first story in the book illustrates that careful preparation and training help and is critical to the successful accomplishment of one’s goals. The second story illustrates that even though the participants were well trained, the lack of adequate preparation brought them in close proximity with calamity. In the final episode two men embrace haphazard and “devil-may-care” attitudes which, without their prior experiences, could have had much more serious consequences.

This small book in its own right inspires, encourages and demonstrates by true life experiences that preparation, training and caution/respect are the better part of valor. A life so lived will not diminish the spirit of adventure and will continue to impart important lessons that will lead to a well-rounded and fulfilling life.
