September’s New Meaning – and Message: Be Prepared

(PRLEAP.COM) Raleigh, NC – The North Carolina chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO-NC) has joined with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to sponsor the fourth annual National Preparedness Month (NPM).

In the aftermath of 9-11 and Hurricane Katrina, September is a month full of meaning that holds a unique and special place in the hearts and minds of Americans. September also offers a perfect opportunity for Americans to take stock and take action, and to join together in readiness, even in the face of uncertainty.

National Preparedness Month is designed to raise individual and societal awareness about different kinds of threats to our safety and their potential impact. NPM aims to encourage communities and individuals to support each other and plan for any possible disaster. Its goal is to remind Americans to expect the unexpected, to get ready and to be ready no matter what.

NAPO-NC’s Community Relations Director, Stefanie Watkins, advises, “ In the event of a fire, a flood, a hurricane or terrorist attack, use common sense, stay calm and be patient. And get organized right now!”

Watkins added, “Assemble an emergency supply kit and develop a family communications plan. Start with the basics: fresh water, food, clean air and then consider your family’s special needs like medicine, diapers or pet food.”

Any emergency, whether a man-made or a natural disaster, can happen at any time. NAPO-NC wants to make sure that you, your family and your community are organized, ready and have a plan. Visit their website at www.naponc.org/npm for a list of resources where you can learn more about being better prepared.
