SIMCO's Brand New Approach to Narrow Web Cleaning

September 26, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
SIMCO Industrial Static Control introduces the NEW VAC•N•TAC – the ultimate in web cleaning systems. The VAC•N•TAC system combines static elimination, a vacuum system and a contact cleaner to clean a web to 1 micron. This combination cleaner maintains a consistently clean print surface, with minimal maintenance costs. Economically priced, the VAC•N•TAC quickly pays for itself with increased productivity - throughput - and reductions in downtime for clean up. Your customers will also benefit through higher quality printed materials.

The VAC•N•TAC’s easy mount design takes just minutes to install. The system is available in single or double sided cleaning and comes complete with a dust collector that requires only an 110v outlet.

The VAC•N•TAC system has been engineered to address the two most critical factors that make particulate removal so difficult; the boundary layer of air and static electricity.

A boundary layer of air is caused by the friction between the surface of a moving web and the surrounding air. It creates a layer of air close to the surface of the web that literally traps the smaller particles. Unless the boundary layer is penetrated, these particles cannot be removed.
Static electricity, caused by the contact and separation of the web on rollers, charges the web surface, creating an electrical field that attracts airborne particles to the surface. Once these particles contact the surface of the web, the static charge bonds them to the surface. Unless this bond is broken and the charges are neutralized, the particles cannot be removed effectively.

The VAC•N•TAC combines three components to address the boundary layer, static charges and resulting particulate on the web’s surface. First a static bar neutralizes the static charge and stops the attraction of particulate to the web. A high volume, low-pressure vacuum system suctions particulate into the dust collector. These two components clean the web to 25 microns. The third component in the VAC•N•TAC system is a Contact Cleaner Roll (CCR). The CCR breaks the boundary layer of air for high efficiency particle removal, to 1micron.

CCRs can be hard to keep clean and the high maintenance and replacement cost on systems that employ adhesive tape cleaning rolls can be prohibitive. By using a vacuum system before the web comes into contact with the CCR, the CCR stays clean, and maintenance and operating costs are significantly reduced.
