The first pan-European online student community called Philox was successfully launched earlier this year. It now has members registered in 20 European countries, with more than 70 universities supporting the project, which allows students to communicate on personal, academic and career related issues. Philox is different in that it reaches students in universities across old and new Europe, allowing them to communicate on a wide range of subjects.

Robin de Vries, founder of Philox who is based in Amsterdam said “We are excited by the positive feedback from both the students and universities. People are attracted to Philox because it is more than just a social networking website, in that it provides students with opportunities to enhance their academic study and share thoughts about student life across Europe.”

An early success for Philox has been with students who want to develop their studies outside their home country. Philox has provided a platform for students to share thoughts and experiences about studying abroad. Jonathan Salomon, studying abroad in England said “Before I left to study at my new university, I was able to meet people I would be studying with and arrange accommodation.”

The name Philox is derived from the Greek Philos and Philoxenia which is all about friendship and hospitality. Visit Philox at http://www.philox.eu
