At Dinner by Design people can assemble a month’s worth of dinners in two hours or less. People choose their entrees from a monthly menu and then select a time and a day to visit the store. When they arrive, they rotate around refrigerated recipe stations that contain the pre-prepped ingredients, assembling their meals in take-home containers. Dinner by Design staff members are on hand to explain, assist and clean up. Each entrée serves a family of 4-6 at a cost of about $3 per serving. The meals are designed to be frozen for later use by customers; each container is labeled with easy-to-follow cooking instructions.

According to owner Mary Locher, we’re thrilled to be part of the Lake Zurich area and to serve thousands of families. “We get comments regularly about how we’ve made a positive impact on a family’s life and dinner time. It means a great deal to us to be able to make such a difference in people’s lives here,” said Mary Locher.

Industry observers predict the concept of meal prep outside the home is becoming very popular and is at the same stage that trendy coffee chains were at 15 years ago. The Business Times Daily called Dinner by Design “one of the hottest new retail franchise sensations sweeping the nation,” and Entrepreneur Magazine named the company and this market segment one of the “Hot 29 Businesses to Start in 2006.”
