Jakarta Touch Rugby Club will hold its second Bali International Touch Tournament in Seminyak October 2, as part of Kuta Karnival 2004 events. The tournament takes place at Lapangan Banteng, Seminkak, from 10 am.

First held in 2000, the one-day tournament is back by popular demand. At least eight, 10-player teams are expected to participate in tournament play, from Jakarta, Singapore and Malaysia. With partners, family and supporters, some 150 will be on the field for the day's activities. Shade, food and drinks available on the pitch will help make this a great day of action for event spectators and players alike. Post tournament celebrations are set at Fabio's Ristorante Italiano-Encoteca.

Touch rugby or "touch', as it is known, is a minimal contact sport played worldwide by men, women and children of all ages. The game emphasizes running, agility and ball handling skills, such as passing and catching.

The game appears similar to rugby, without tackles, scrums and kicking. The aim of the game is to score tries. It is played on a flat surface, half the size of conventional sports fields. Although a social game, there now are commercial leagues and school competition around the world. The official governing body is the Federation of International Touch.

Proceeds from the event will benefit facilities improvements at local schools near the field and the Harry Burton Memorial Scholarship Fund.

This year's Bali tournament is organized by The Works, ProMotion Events and Jakarta Touch Rugby Club. Sponsorship opportunities remain available. For information, contact Intan at (0361) 425754.
