Flooring manufacturer, Flowcrete, visited by Rural Task Force.

A task force came to see how a British flooring manufacturer – located in the Cheshire countryside - works in harmony with its rural setting, as part of a visit which will be used to inform the Prime Minister on business in the green belt.

Members of the Commission for Rural Communities went on a fact-finding business to Flowcrete, to see how business opportunities fit in with the countryside – and to hear how provision for growth and development can be introduced to support rural businesses.

The move comes after Dr Stuart Burgess, the Chairman of the Commission for Rural Communities – who was among the visitors to Flowcrete - was asked by Gordon Brown to compile a report on strengthening economies in the countryside.

Although just half an hour from Manchester, Flowcrete is located on the edge of the historic town of Sandbach, and backs on to open fields and a canal.

Dr Stuart Burgess, the Chairman of the Commission for Rural Communities said: “In the last few weeks the Prime Minister has asked me to prepare a report on how the rural economy can be strengthened. The visit will provide us with an enhanced understanding of the rural economy as we compile our report.”

Peter Drew, director of marketing and customer service at Flowcrete, led a presentation and tour around the site to the 16 delegates, which also included members of Congleton Borough Council. He said: “In general terms, businesses in more urban areas usually benefit from opportunities including more sites, buildings and grants to enable their organisation to grow.
“It is important companies in the countryside are not overlooked. They provide job opportunities and support for the rural economy, and can help with sustainability by cutting down on travel.
“This visit gave Flowcrete a chance to speak up for and promote rural businesses in general.”
