Moving the Defense of the Christian Faith to Sunday Morning Church

La Crosse, WI. Christian Apologist Anthony Horvath has released a bulletin insert series for churches to use in their Sunday morning services. The readings of the day are supplemented with various facts of the faith to help Christians better understand why Christianity has a solid basis.

Many people believe that Christian apologetics is raw intellectual sparring for the Christian theism. Not so, says Horvath, who goes by the screen name ‘Sntjohnny.’ Horvath argues that apologetics simply refers to any of the reasons for why Christians believe what they believe. However, not many Christians are informed of this material, which is what Horvath hopes his bulletin inserts will change.

Each week’s readings are supplemented in the insert. For example, if a reading that day has some archeological discovery related to it that will be in the insert. Also, writings from the Church fathers like Augustine are provided to help show what the understanding of the text has been in history. When the texts allow it, there is an insight from the Biblical languages.

Horvath explains, “Many Christians are falling away into atheism and various cults and for all the worst reasons. I come across Christians who aren’t even aware of how many disciples there were, let alone some things that are really interesting, like for example some of the archeological discoveries that corroborate parts of the Christian Scriptures.”

Horvath protests that this is not a tactic for conversion. “Actually, it’s about preservation. It is about equipping Christians with more and more pieces of information that support their faith for their own personal strengthening. I fully expect and hope that thus equipped, they can use it in their evangelism. But the bulletins themselves are not evangelism. They are written with Christians in mind.”

The bulletin series currently offered is only for the season of Advent, which is in December. The four week series leads up to Christmas and if there is sufficient interest a Lenten season series will be made available as well. The first week is available for free download to use as a sample.
