Suffering From Seasonal Affective Disorder? Designer’s Huggable Light is Therapeutic

Boulder, Colorado - October 18, 2007 – Known for creating unique and versatile home furnishings, industrial designer Diana Lin has found an unexpected new market for her revolutionary illuminating d°light Huggable pillow. The 12.5” x 12.5” glowing cushion is becoming increasingly popular with sufferers of seasonal affective disorder (SAD) who wish to augment existing therapies.

Also called winter depression, SAD is a mood disorder that experts believe is related to a lack of exposure to sunlight. Sufferers experience normal mental health throughout most of the year, yet experience symptoms of depression during the darker winter months. In geographic regions where there is minimal winter sunlight, the rate of SAD can be as high as 10 percent. Light therapy, often used in conjunction with medication, is the most common treatment for the disorder.

“Because sunlight was the inspiration for the d°light Huggable, I am delighted that it is creating a sense of well-being in its users while also being a beautiful home furnishing,” states designer, Diana Lin. “My goal is always to bring products to the market that enable both positive physical and emotional responses.”

The d°light Huggable illuminates with a series of 12 LED lights embedded within silicone bubbles. With a soft furry cover and a comforting glow, its design encourages interaction and instills a sense of warmth and companionship. The lifelike quality of the silicone used in the d°light Huggable mimics a living entity and gives a sensation of hugging as one holds it.

The d°light Huggable is also highly functional in a children’s room as an alternative light source and will soon be marketed to the medical community as a comfort companion for hospital patients.

The d°light Huggable is powered by four AA batteries or a 4.5 volt AC adaptor (included) and glows brightly for approximately four hours before gradually dimming. It can be turned on and off by pulling the chain-switch and is available in three colors – Huggable Gold, Huggable White, and Huggable Pink. With a suggested retail price of $160, the d°light can be purchased at www.dianalindesign.com and through a select group of international retailers.
