Bicycles, Booze and Carbon Fiber: the Best New Developments from Interbike 2007

(PRLEAP.COM) New York, NY. October 19, 2007. The invitation read, "What could be better than bicycle racing? Bicycling racing and boozing!" Before long it was posted all over the internet on blogs and sites getting ready for what is often an obligatory industry pilgrimage to market new products. Summaries from the convention tend to describe the new carbon fiber technology, manufacturer’s response to the booming urban bike market and oh yeah… those crazy kids from New York who put on the best bike party in Las Vegas. Originally an underground event held by local bike messengers, GoldSprintsNYC has branched out in the last two years to include an annual fall/winter racing series and regular promotional events in cities along the eastern seaboard. Combining the party environment of the hosting bar venue with 3D visualization software projected overhead the audiences tend to be just as colorful.

A packed house of several hundred conventioneers and local Vegas residents kicked off the second annual GoldSprintsNYC event at the Double Down Saloon, otherwise known as, ‘The Happiest Place on Earth.’ Like the official convention bikes and fashions on show, the Interbike event is a key indicator of what’s ahead. A more than four fold increase in participation included shop owners, sponsored racers, journalists and fashionistas who took to the bar and the bikes with equal enthusiasm. The GoldsprintsNYC Vegas event comes just at a time when fixed gear bicycles and grassroots organizations are rebuilding the image of cycling in cities and towns across America.

The irony of the convention is that just when all the fabulous new bikes and gear gets revealed to an eager audience the winter season keeps most people off their bike. GoldsprintsNYC’s racing series and other events fill that gap by being an indoor activity with all the excitement and style normally reserved for the racing season. Better still: GoldSprintsNYC isn’t just for a small group of elite racers - this party is open to anyone willing to give it a ride. After checking out all the latest offerings at Interbike this year GoldSprintsNYC is the one most likely to find wider audience.
