Hidden Shoal Recordings Sign Japanese Outfit The Retail Sectors

The Australian music label, Hidden Shoal Recordings, today announced the signing of Japanese project The Retail Sectors to its roster of artists.

Layering manipulated guitars, bass, drums and electronics to create compelling, melodic instrumentals, the music of The Retail Sectors frequently threatens to spiral out of control, yet like an exquisite train wreck holds the listener rapt. From the pounding euphoria of tracks such as ‘The First Steps to the End of Life’ to the elegiac ‘Beauty of the Depression’, The Retail Sectors create inventive and utterly engaging instrumental rock.

Inspired by the video game music of Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy) and the movie soundtracks of Joe Hisaishi, The Retail Sectors is one of the musical projects of the multi-talented Kentaro Togawa. Born in 1985 in Yamanashi, Japan, Kentaro has been involved in the Japanese music scene since the age of 16. He also records as The Wholesale Sectors, covering the work of Nobuo Uematsu.

Kentaro has released two albums, three EPs, two compilations and a remix, and also runs his own music label, Symbolic Interaction. His first release through Hidden Shoal Recordings, Foregone Conclusion, collects the pearls from some of his previous releases, including collaborations with Si Begg, Maps and Diagrams, and Headphone Science, as well as a number of previously unreleased tracks.

Hidden Shoal Recordings will release the mini album Foregone Conclusion by The Retail Sectors on the 4th of December, 2007. The first single from Foregone Conclusion, the Si Begg remix of ‘The First Steps to the End of Life’ will see release on November 13th.

Hidden Shoal Recordings is an Australian-based independent digital music label. The label is a unique marriage of contemporary distribution, marketing and publicity with traditional indie label values and, most importantly, a wonderful catalogue of releases.

Hidden Shoal Recordings current catalogue includes releases that slip between the edges of experimental ambient work, shoegazing pop, post-rock and indie rock. The label has earned a reputation for releasing exciting and engaging new independent music that is not bound by genre or style.
