CRICKET LEGEND GEOFFREY BOYCOTT IS AT HOME ON HIS HUXLEY ALL-WEATHER GOLF GREEN

Former Yorkshire and England opening batsman Geoffrey Boycott, who scored his hundredth first class century against the Australians at Headingley thirty years ago, has always set himself the highest standards and enjoyed practising to improve his game.

Now a highly-respected cricket writer and commentator, Geoffrey Boycott has turned his attention to golf and commissioned Huxley Golf to install a state-of-the-art practice facility at his Channel Islands home. Geoffrey selected the same specification tournament quality all-weather nylon putting and chipping green which Huxley Golf have already installed for eight Major Championship winners, together with a Huxley Rotanet retractable golf practice net and full size green-side bunker. These enable him to practise all aspects of his golf game without having to leave the privacy of his garden.

The Huxley all-weather green, which measures 30ft by 45ft (9.1m x 13.7m), incorporates five hole positions enabling Geoffrey to practise a full range of putts of different lengths and borrows. The true ball roll is perfect for putting practice, but the high quality Huxley all-weather turf also provides an ideal surface for practising those all-important chip shots from around the green. But it’s not just his short game that Geoffrey Boycott is working on at home. The Huxley Rotanet golf practice net allows Geoffrey to use all his woods and long irons to practise his long game, and the Rotanet can be quickly retracted when not in use so that it takes up virtually no space in the garden.

"It's great being able to simply step outside the house to practise my game," commented Geoffrey. "I travel a great deal in my job and when I am at home, I like to stay at home and not be sitting in a car driving to the golf club or the range to practise. Having a putting green and a driving net in the garden means that I can get in a bit of fresh air and golf practice whenever I want."

Well-known for his total dedication and meticulous attention to detail when he was a professional cricketer, Geoffrey Boycott has never accepted second best. He stressed that practice is very important to him no matter what the game. "I'm a great believer in Gary Player's comment that the more you practise, the luckier you get," he said. "Aside from luck, I practise simply to get better at what I do and with the Huxley putting green, I believe I've got the best all-weather practice surface there is."

Geoffrey pointed out that he had created a natural grass golf green at his previous home in Yorkshire which had demanded a consistently high level of maintenance. "The Huxley putting green needs virtually no maintenance, just an occasional brushing or the removal of a stray leaf or twig," he said. "This has to be a major advantage for anyone wanting to install an all-weather putting surface at home or in any other place. I can return home after two weeks away and the green is there waiting for me, all ready for use. You can't fault that."
