CA2 Metric Tie Rod Cylinder

The design improvements include a 5 to 15% reduction in weight, a 30% increase in cushioning capabilities and an improved “floating” cushion seal.

The weight reduction was achieved by adopting aluminum die cast covers, allowing additional material removal compared to the previous casting method. In addition, the cushioning capabilities were improved by increasing the volume of the cushion chamber and through the use of a “floating” cushion seal. The new seal reduces jerky movements of the piston rod at lower operating pressures and increases the seal life significantly. As a result, these new design features allow 30% more kinetic energy absorption during the cushioning at the end of the stroke.

The CA2 series is also available with SMC’s new line of direct mount auto switches. This style of auto switch is a space-saving feature and can be installed within the envelope dimensions of the cylinder covers.
