ANCHOR-ASTORIA LODGE NO. 729 COMMUNITY AWARDS NIGHT

(PRLEAP.COM) College Point, New York, March 17 - Anchor-Astoria Lodge held its annual Community Awards night on March 14th, honoring local citizens and groups for their achievements. 24 children from local schools were awarded U.S. Savings Bonds as prizes for the Lodge’s 19th annual Drug and Alcohol Abuse Essay Contest, led by long time member Robert Matoskey. Four essays were selected from each grade from first through sixth.

Community presentations were made to local groups including the College Point Ambulance Corp., College Point Senior Center, Poppenhusen Institute, and local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops. A donation was also made to each group.

Scholarship awards were presented to two local high school students who are entering college in the fall. The crowd of over 150 was then treated to dinner and dessert.

Anchor-Astoria Lodge No. 729, Free & Accepted Masons, has been heavily involved in community affairs since 1873. The Lodge sponsors and runs a number of events every year, including community dinners, coat drives, Toys For Tots, and the successful Child I.D. program to help recover missing children.
