Million Pound Story
(PRLEAP.COM) Leeds, United Kingdom, 22 March 2006 - Leeds-based interactive content developer, green eye dv, has recently gone public with The Million Pound Story project — an online collaborative writing project, open to anyone with an interest in writing. They are offering contributors the opportunity to take part in a unique writing project that, if successful, will be turned into an interactive DVD and possibly iTunes download. The characters, plot, theme and setting will all be put into the hands of the online community and the audience will decide how the project should develop.
Green eye’s founder, Johnathan Joy, explained the project and said he hopes to achieve the following:
“We hope to generate as much media and public awareness of the project as we can”, commented Joy. “It’s a unique idea and we believe the online community will see the value and get behind it.”
Those who contribute to the development of the online story will share in the profits as well. Joy said the company anticipates sharing 50% of any profits generated by the sale of the interactive DVD.
According to Joy, “The ultimate aim of this project is that everyone gets something out of it. The Million Pound Story is, we believe, a win-win situation. We get to oversee the development of the DVD project, work with lots of creative people, have a lot of fun doing something a bit different and make some money. All who contribute will get the chance to showcase their creativity, earn some recognition and get financial payback in the process.”
The first stage has been to create the website and go public with project. In approximately 12 - 18 months, the story and all the associated information will be collected from the website. After that, it will be handed that over to a script editor for refinement. However, none of that can happen without submissions from the online community. Johnathan Joy wants the online community to, “Spread the word! Write the kind of stories that you want to see. Let’s have some fun making the Million Pound Story.”
Joy has spent the past 15 months getting green eye dv off the ground. Like the majority of new business start-ups, he went looking for funding and found it challenging.
Rather than focus on applying for grants, seeking venture capital or taking out loans, Joy decided to take this unconventional route to secure project funding, which has lead to the Million Pound Story project and the unique way to launch green eye dv.
“The basic plan was to develop an online story, which can then be developed into an interactive DVD-based product. We are looking to raise the finance primarily though the sale of advertising space on The Million Pound Story website but also by accepting donations. This will allow us to develop the finished story and pay all the professionals needed to achieve a finished project”, said Joy.
