Symbiosis 2007, the 13th European Congress on Biotechnology, set to address humanity’s great challenges
(PRLEAP.COM) Barcelona, 02/14/2007 – The 13th edition of the European Congress on Biotechnology will bring together leading biotechnologists from around the world to analyse the crucial impact the life sciences industry has in addressing humanity’s great challenges through the theme of Symbiosis. The Congress, which will be held from September 16th – 19th in Barcelona, is supported by the European Commission and will attract over 1,500 leading scientists and other senior participants from around the world.
“The 13th European Congress on Biotechnology will focus the attention of many of Europe and the World’s leading scientists on addressing the great challenges to society”, according to Mathias Uhlen, Chairman of the Scientific Programme Committee. The Congress will be the “ideal platform to stimulate the debate on how biotechnology can help to address the most critical health, environmental and nutritional challenges of humanity”, said Uhlen, who has received numerous awards for his scientific work, including the Svedberg prize, the Göran Gustavsson prize and the gold medal of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences.
Leading international experts will tackle in the 4-day conference how biotechnology can contribute to address chronic diseases in the developing world, how can it improve the development of new innovative and targeted medicines, the potential of biofuels, the importance of biotechnology for biodiversity and dozens of other topics in the fields of health, industrial biotechnology, green biotechnology, functional genomics, and science, industry and society.
The European Congress on Biotechnology was established in 1978 by the European Federation of Biotechnology. Previous editions attracted over 1,500 leading scientists and other senior participants, over 500 posters and more than a hundred exhibitors, from over 50 countries across Europe and beyond.
