AWARD WINNING VETERAN ACTOR ERNEST BORGNINE RECEIVES LEGION OF HONOR AWARD FROM AMERICAN VETERAN AWARDS
(PRLEAP.COM) NORTHRIDGE, CA, February 18, 2007 - WWII Navy veteran and Academy Award winning actor Ernest Borgnine has been inducted into the American Veteran Awards ‘Legion of Honor’, the first person chosen to receive the prestigious honor. The former Navy seaman who served two tours of duty during the Second World War was presented with the award by American Veteran Awards’ President Harry Shaw on the set of Borgnine’s current film,” Bernie & Becca” for Hallmark Entertainment.
According to AVA President Shaw, Borgnine was selected for the award because of his lifetime of dedication and service to America’s military Veterans and active duty service members. As he presented Borgnine with the certificate and statuette, Shaw told the audience, “The American Veteran Awards and the entire Veteran community are very proud to honor such a wonderful humanitarian and such a great and devoted veteran as Ernest Borgnine.”
Borgnine, who recently celebrated his 90th birthday, was previously honored as the Veteran Of The Year by the American Veteran Awards. “The ‘Legion Of Honor” award is very special because it gives those of us in the Veteran community a new and unique way to honor those who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in helping their fellow Veterans,” said Shaw. “We truly appreciate Ernie and his service, and on this day we honor him not only as a noble veteran and a great American, but also as a very special and caring human being.”
