Emergency Monitoring and Prevention

(PRLEAP.COM) The organisation e-ISOTIS (Information Society Open To ImpairmentS) participates in the European Project EMERGE which aims to support elderly people with innovative technology such as unobtrusive sensors which will monitor daily strokes, high risk for falling, high blood pressure, diabetes and depression could be helped in an emergency situation. According to some statistics facts 1:10 elderly people falls with injury, 1:50 falls with a fracture ,1:100 falls with a fracture close to the hip joint. Also Up to 45% of people in nursing homes suffer from undiagnosed depressions and more than 40% of suicides are committed by people over 60.

Regarding to the above facts the Emerge project can help elderly people by reducing accidents from falls and prevent emergency situations like the referred. Specifically, the project will provide proactive assistance to the elderly and if this help is not sufficient, in case of emergency it can call for help and furthermore to inform about the personal situation of the affected person. The EMS(Emergency Medical Service) resolves the situation through medical care, telemedicine counselling or sending a rescue team. The EMERGE consortium is comprised of 9 partners with an outstanding experience in different fields, but with common interest in elderly society¢s issues.

The organisation e-ISOTIS (Information Society Open To ImpairmentS) is a non-profit making organisation founded in December 2002, working with People with Disabilities, Elderly, their spouses as well as members of the ICT (Information Communication Technology) community, worldwide. Currently, its associated members represent 350.000 people with impairments, located in European countries.

The scope of e-ISOTIS organisation is to ensure that people with disabilities, elderly and their families are fully involved in the preparations and activities in line with the slogan "nothing about people with disabilities without people with disabilities". By supporting People with Disabilities and elderly, e-ISOTIS aims at assisting its members in overcoming the existing barriers and experiencing an Information Society that opens up new opportunities for development, prosperity and quality of life.
