ONSITE3 Announces Safe Harbor Certification for Handling of Client Data from the European Union
(PRLEAP.COM) Arlington, Virginia (July 23, 2007) — ONSITE3(TM), a leading global provider of eForensics, eDiscovery, eReview and consulting services offering one source litigation support for law firms and corporations, announced that it has been added to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Safe Harbor List, demonstrating to ONSITE3’s clients that its practices conform with the Safe Harbor framework developed by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the European Commission regarding "adequate protection" for personal data from Europe as required by the European Union’s Directive on Data Protection.
Developed as a solution to the unique approaches to data privacy between the United States and European Union, conformance with the Safe Harbor framework enables U.S. companies to lawfully transfer personal data outside of the European Economic Area (EEA) such as might be needed to address time-sensitive e-discovery requests under the recently amended Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. Without conformance, delays in the transfer of data could arise as a result of European privacy laws.
"With a continuing trend for increasingly global business operations not only for large corporations but also for mid-size and smaller organizations, ONSITE3’s Safe Harbor policy provides an added level of assurance and flexibility for our clients who conduct operations subject to European privacy laws," said Mark Hawn, chief executive officer. "In addition to our existing capability to collect and process data on-location in Europe, ONSITE3 — as demonstrated by its certification — has the flexibility to support client requests for projects in which data needs to be transferred and processed at our secure facilities within the United States."
In accordance with its Safe Harbor Certification, ONSITE3 has developed a Safe Harbor Data Privacy Policy that addresses each of the Safe Harbor Privacy Principles developed by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the European Commission. The ONSITE3 Safe Harbor Data Privacy Policy is available online at
http://www.onsite3.com/safeharbor.
In addition, the U.S. Department of Commerce maintains a list of all compliant organizations, which can be accessed at
