'Hoop Exercise for Kids’ Helps Build Positive Fitness Habits
(PRLEAP.COM) Atlanta, GA: Gen Cole, M.S., the program’s founder, announces today ‘Hoop Exercise for Kids’ is now offering private and group sessions throughout Metro Atlanta and offering online DVD purchase.
Cole says, “I started working out when I was 14… before that I was a kid — meaning I was super active and pursued a lot of fun activities – things I considered play. I grew up in WV and one activity I loved was roaming through the mountains as adventure and fun. I was hiking! But to me at that time, it was just great fun and I loved it. Today, I hike regularly because of that positive experience.”
She’s on a mission today to inspire kids the world over to lead more active lifestyles based on the concepts of movement and fun. And, she may be on to something. At the center of her program is one of history’s most iconic ‘fun’ toys, the hula hoop. According to wikipedia.com, the hula hoop knows no inventor and has been around for thousands of years.
She explains “I teach kids the body loves to move… and things they might consider play today can be great ways to build positive, healthy habits for a lifetime of good physical fitness. I want to tap into their natural exuberance for play and build on that for a lifetime of good fitness health.” She adds, “Usually kids aren’t even introduced to the concept of ‘exercise’ until middle school… and by that time, they may have already adopted some pretty negative habits toward movement in general.”
The ‘Hoop Exercise for Kids’ program may be disguised as a hula hoop class, but in its first fifteen minutes, features all the key elements of a real workout – with warm up, aerobic conditioning, and cool down sessions – all using the hula hoop – and all in a fun, playful way for kids to enjoy. The remaining fifteen minutes of class focuses on ‘learning to hula hoop’ and learning tricks. Cole provides individual attention and demonstrations during this time. And, she introduces one fitness topic each class session. This information is based on ‘fitness facts’ provided by the American Council on Exercise (ACE).
Gen Cole, M.S., is a hula hoop enthusiast, instructor, and designer, and holds a Masters Degree in Healthcare Administration. She has been providing ‘Hoop Exercise for Kids’ videos online since March, 2007 at: iWebPlay.Com.
