CGI LEADS IT INTEGRATION OF HHS NATIONWIDE HEALTH INFORMATION NETWORK FOR CARESPARK TEAM
October 26, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Health NewsFairfax, Virginia, October 24, 2007– CGI Group, Inc., (NYSE: GIB; TSX: GIB.A) announced today that, as a part of the CareSpark team, it has been selected as the lead systems integrator to link CareSpark’s regional health information network into the Health and Human Services (HHS) Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN).
The NHIN is the foundation for nationwide health information exchange between consumers, providers, payers, and health product suppliers. It is part of a national initiative to improve health quality through the innovative use of secure information technology and achieve the President’s goal for the majority of American’s to have secure personal electronic health records by 2014.
CGI will leverage its broad range of federal and commercial Health IT offerings in support of the CareSpark Team implementation of the NHIN infrastructure. “For over two decades, CGI has been applying advanced technologies in security, interoperability, and managed services to improve processes in healthcare,” said Rich Martin, Vice-President, Public Sector Health, CGI. “This award continues our relationship with CareSpark as both a technology partner and regional employer through our software development center in Russell County, Virginia and gives us the opportunity to continue to advance the national healthcare agenda.”

CareSpark is a non-profit organization serving a 17-county region of southwest Virginia and northeast Tennessee, and is designed to improve health through the collaborative use of health information. Since its inception in 2005, CareSpark has partnered with local healthcare providers, purchasers, technology companies and policy-makers at federal and state levels to develop a sustainable system that supports patient care delivery, public health research and population health improvement. CareSpark participated in the first phase of work to develop a prototype Nationwide Health Information Network, demonstrating secure health information in January 2007 through a consortium led by Accenture.
