(Pasadena, CA)— Halloween is an exciting time for children. It’s a time of dressing up, eating lots of candy, and spending time with friends and family. The children living at Hillsides, a Pasadena charity that creates safe places for children in foster care and prevents the cycle of domestic violence for children at risk and their families, may not be able to spend Halloween with their family, but they are given the greatest Halloween experience thanks to all the wonderful donors and volunteers who help to make their day special.

Hillsides offers a variety of Halloween activities to the children including Halloween costumes, candy and decorations provided by the charity of volunteers, Halloween parties with trick-or-treating and haunted houses, and amazing makeup done for each child by students at the Westmore Academy of Cosmetic Arts.

For five years the Westmore Academy of Cosmetic Arts has been providing the children of Hillsides with professional makeup to match their Halloween costumes. Months before Halloween the children start planning what costumes they want to wear and are excited to see the Westmore students and tell them of their ideas.

“The students have a wonderful time making these children smile,” said Mike Pack head teacher at Westmore Academy. “The children always seem a little happier and more excited when we’re done.”

The Westmore Academy of Cosmetic Arts is a school providing the most current and up-to-date makeup and hair techniques to their students for use in the film and fashion industries. The students’ unique talents are put to the test by the children at Hillsides who always want the most elaborate and creative characters for their Halloween costumes.

Thanks to all of the individual volunteers and charities who provide costumes, candy and fun décor, including the Westmore Academy of Cosmetic Arts that apply fantastic make-up to enhance the children’s Halloween costumes, the Hillsides children will have yet another fun and safe Halloween this year.
