Chinese Auction Raises Funds for School Library

November 04, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Education News
A Chinese Auction held by Henry Prince School, Ashbourne, raised £265. The money collected is helping the school provide books for its new library.

Nicky Taylor-Smith, chairman of the Parents-Teacher Association which organised the event, says “It was a fabulous evening for all the family. People were very generous when donating prizes and the auction was really well supported by the local community.”

In a Chinese Auction people buy tickets and bid on an item by placing a ticket in a pot in front of that item. At the end of bidding, a winning ticket is drawn from each item’s pot. A bidder increases the chance of winning by buying and bidding more tickets on a specific item.

As well as parents and pupils from the school, the auction attracted many people from the local villages.

Henry Prince School has 67 pupils aged from 3 to 9 years. It serves the parishes of Mayfield, Ellastone, Wootton and Stanton.
