One Stop Systems Introduces Industry-First PCI Express SuperSwitch for Host-to-Host Communication

ESCONDIDO, Calif. — One Stop Systems, a global provider in industrial-grade computing systems and components, today introduces the first PCI Express (PCIe) x4 SuperSwitch, enabling host-to-host communication over the PCIe bus at speeds of 20Gb/s. One Stop Systems’ family of SuperSwitch products provide three different options:

(1) SuperSwitch 1 allows communication between two computers.
(2) SuperSwitch 2 allows communication between up to five computers.
(3) SuperSwitch 3 provides full network communication of up to eight compute nodes.

In comparison to other network solutions, PCIe is less costly and operates at much higher speeds. Ethernet and Infiniband options cost as much as two-to-three times that of One Stop Systems’ PCIe solutions. Ethernet and Infiniband also require bus-to-bus conversions creating increased latencies.

SuperSwitch 1
SuperSwitch 1 includes a PCIe x4 host adapter attached via a PCIe x4 cable to One Stop Systems’ CompactPCI Express x4 cable adapter, PCIe x4 cable adapter, or PCIe x4 Express Card. Using One Stop Systems’ ExpressNet utility software, data transfers between two systems occurs at 20Gb/s. SuperSwitch 1, including ExpressNet, lists for $1,695. One Stop Systems’ ExpressNet driver and utility software supports 64 bit CPUs as well as multi-threaded environments.

SuperSwitch 2
SuperSwitch 2 includes connecting up to five processors using One Stop Systems’ PCIe x4 mezzanine cable adapter and four PCIe x4 cable adapters. SuperSwitch 2 enables data transfers at 20Gb/s.

SuperSwitch 3
SuperSwitch 3 includes connecting up to eight CPUs or any combination of CPUs and I/O devices, using One Stop Systems’ 8-port 1U switch. It provides data transfers at 20Gb/s.

“One Stop Systems continues to lead the industry in PCI Express technology with the introduction of the most sought after advantage of PCI Express – CPU-to-CPU communication over the high speed PCI Express bus,” said Steve Cooper, president of One Stop Systems. “SuperSwitch 1, allows two processing units to transfer data with the addition of our new ExpressNet software driver. This unique software will soon become an industry standard for point-to-point communication, and is first being released for our Linux customers and will soon follow for Windows customers as well. Other SuperSwitch models will follow with multiple node communication,” Cooper added.

"One Stop Systems' ExpressNet software allows PCIe-over-cable to be easily used within multi-computing applications. Their SuperSwitch products demonstrate the full capabilities of the PLX family of PCIe Gen 1 switching components for CPU-to-CPU communications — dramatically broadening the usage model for PCIe," said David Raun, vice president of marketing and business development at PLX Technology, the world’s leading provider of PCI Express Switch and Bridge chips. “We look forward to a continued partnership with innovative PCIe leaders such as One Stop.”
