Colorado EMS Agencies Receive Life Saving Equipment through Fire Grant

Life Saving Solutions and several EMS agencies in the San Luis Valley, to include the SLV RETAC, teamed up in a collaborative effort to secure funding through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP). Through the grant, the SLV EMS/Trauma Advisory Council (RETAC) was funded for twelve MRx units, which will go into four ambulance services. These units will be a first for some areas, and replace existing Medtronic LP12 and LP300 units in others.

Life Saving Solutions assisted with the grant writing that secured the funding, with significant contribution from Del Norte Ambulance service and the SLV RETAC.

Philips HeartStart MRx Defibrillator/Monitor, unites Philips' industry-leading monitoring technologies, with superior diagnostic measurements and the patented SMART Biphasic resuscitation waveform in a single, thoughtfully designed, lightweight device. These devices provide the longest battery-powered operating time, the largest color display and fastest time to shock of any monitor/defibrillator.

These devices significantly upgrade the local EMS agencies capability to accurately assess and treat critical care patients.

Jon Montano, RETAC Coordinator for the San Luis Valley said, “Life Saving Solutions realized we have some of the poorest counties in the state. We did not have the funds to purchase the equipment needed to bring our services up to the level of every one else.

Thanks to Life Saving Solutions and their efforts to procure this Regional Grant, every ambulance in the San Luis Valley has Advanced Cardiac Life Support capabilities.”

In addition to helping secure the grant monies needed, LSS is donating a 13th MRx unit to the SLV RETAC, which will be used for training and emergencies. “This project is another effort where we have been able to help this community get something that they really needed,” said Jeff Zeiler, CEO of Life Saving Solutions. “Our work in the San Luis Valley has been very rewarding in so many ways. Our donation of the MRx unit to Jon Montano, SLV RETAC coordinator, was our way of saying thank you to Jon for his role in this project and for his dedicated effort in the community he serves. Jon is truly a committed man, and it was a small token of how we could help him in his effort”

The San Luis Valley Regional EMS/Trauma Advisory Council (SLV RETAC) encompasses six counties located in the South Central portion of Colorado. Counties include Alamosa, Conejos, Costilla, Rio Grande, Mineral, and Saguache.

LSS is already recognized in the region for their recent deployment of 19 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in high schools across the six counties in conjunction with Caring for Colorado and the David Brooks Memorial Foundation.
