The University of Tulsa College of Law and Chesapeake Energy Corporation will announce the formation of the Chesapeake Energy Scholarship Program during a November 14 press conference. The event will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the Wm. Stuart Price and Michael C. Turpen Courtroom at John Rogers Hall, 3120 East Fourth Place.

Steadman Upham, TU President and Henry Hood, Chesapeake Energy Senior Vice President, will discuss details and introduce the first class of Chesapeake Scholars. A luncheon will follow the press conference.

The five-year partnership will allow the law school to strengthen its recruitment of students interested in careers in the oil and gas industry. Additionally, the company’s support will build a mentorship program and promote the mission of the school’s National Energy-Environment Law and Policy Institute (NELPI).

Three distinct areas will be addressed by the initiative, including student scholarships, curriculum enhancements and the establishment of a lecture series. This program is further strengthened by interdisciplinary options which will be available through the Energy Management Program in TU’s College of Business Administration and energy-related classes in the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

The Chesapeake Lecture Series will kick off this spring and highlight notable leaders in the energy field in academics, industry and public service. Speakers and date for the inaugural lecture will be announced at a later time.

Five students were chosen to make up the inaugural class of Chesapeake Scholars, while several additional course offerings in oil and gas are planned. The Chesapeake Scholars will be named at the press conference.

Media interested in attending the press conference should contact Jimmy Hart at (918) 631-2568 for further information. President Upham, Mr. Hood and the inaugural class of Chesapeake Scholars will be available for comment following the announcement.
