Comodo Introduces Free SecureEmail for an easy way to digitally sign & encrypt email

Jersey City, NJ, November 17, 2007 - Comodo, a leading Certification Authority and Internet security company announced today the availability of the BETA version of SecureEmail. This PKI based solution enables outgoing emails to be encrypted and digitally signed so that recipients can be assured that the email has not been tampered with during transmission and is coming from a trusted source. This functionality is critical where sensitive information is being communicated through email and must be secured from hackers or identity thieves.

Email is one of the most ubiquitous forms of communications and is also one of the most vulnerable systems to attack. Comodo SecureEmail is the install-and-forget PKI based application that can automatically encrypt and sign all messages. Featuring full integration with Outlook, Thunderbird and other major mail clients, it features a built-in wizard that allows users to easily download and setup a free Comodo email certificate. Home users will benefit from the security of automatic encryption and signing of their email while the application handles difficult or hard to remember processes such as public- key exchange. Network administrators looking to implement total client-to-client email security can utilize Comodo SecureEmail as a complement to any existing gateway encryption process.

Comodo offers this solution free to help accelerate market adoption of the practice of signing and encrypting email communications to protect users from the inherent vulnerability of sending email over the Internet. The market has been slow to adopt this type of solution because setting up and maintaining a secure email system has traditionally been too complex for most users. Comodo SecureEmail was designed to address this complexity issue and, once installed, the application will automatically monitor all incoming and outgoing mails; can prompt if the user attempts to send unencrypted mail and will manage the complex key exchange procedure. Other key features include:

* Innovative session certificate:
To avoid the complicated public key exchange process normally needed for securing and signing email, Comodo SecureEmail automatically generates a unique, 'single-use' session certificate to encrypt outgoing emails to recipients whenever an email certificate is not present on the system. The recipient can then decrypt and read the mail by either installing their own free copy of SecureEmail or by using our online WebReader service to securely view the message online.
* Whole journey encryption:
Many corporations use an email gateway that encrypts messages as they leave the corporate perimeter. The problem with this approach is that it leaves internal mail completely unprotected and vulnerable to malware, packet sniffing and malicious insiders. Mail that is heading from the network towards the gateway is similarly vulnerable. The only way to completely secure email traffic is to implement client-to-client encryption i.e. mail is encrypted as soon as it leaves the sender's workstation. Comodo SecureEmail fills this potential security hole by providing whole journey encryption from sender's mail client to recipient's mail client.
* Automatic certificate exchange, installation and updates:
SecureEmail's notification system ensures both sender and recipient are updated with each others certificates. SecureEmail also automatically imports all relevant mail settings to ensure the fastest possible set-up time.
* Built in wizard for easy sign-up and installation of a Comodo Free email Certificate.
