(SAVANNAH) Park Place Outreach awarded grant from USDHHS

Park Place Outreach is pleased to announce it has been awarded a grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services. The grant, worth $100,000 per year for three years will go toward the operation of the Park Place Mobile Street Outreach Program.

This program reaches out to runaways, street youth and young adults in crisis, through age 21, in the community by setting up shop in various sites in the city of Savannah. The adult and teen mentors who man the mobile unit serve as a resource to youth in crisis.

“We reach a lot of kids with this mobile unit,” says Linda Hilts Lamas, Executive Director of Park Place Outreach.

“It’s one thing for us to have the shelter, but the ability to reach out to a youth who might need help is crucial. Sometimes they need us to come to them and the mobile unit allows us to do just that.”

In addition to this grant, Park Place was also awarded another grant of $150,000 per year for three years. Those funds will go to the emergency shelter for runaway, homeless and youth in crisis for kids age 11-18.

Park Place provides emergency shelter and street outreach for adolescents ages 11 through 18 and their families. It is the only agency located within Chatham County that serves youth at no charge who are accepted without a referral to receive help. Park Place opened in 1984.
