Children from primary schools across Flintshire this week took part in athletic competitions at the North Wales Indoor Athletic Centre, Deeside College. Thirty eight primary schools took part in five competitions. Athletes from the winning schools have gone on to compete in the county schools' final which takes place on 23 November 2007, and then the North Wales primary schools' final that takes place on 7 December 2007, all at Deeside College. The winning primary school from North Wales will then compete in the Wales final later in the year.

The schoolchildren, aged 9 to 11, took part in a number of athletics activities including sprint relays, standing long jump, soft javelin and standing triple jump. By using The North Wales indoor athletics centre, the children were given the opportunity to experience a real athletic environment and have use of all the athletic equipment at the centre.

Paul Hinchliffe, Partnerships Manager - External Affairs at Deeside College, said, "We were delighted to support Flintshire's primary schools and the county council by hosting the athletics festival. Our excellent facilities are used by not only students and staff at the college, but a wide range of sports clubs from across the local community, including Deeside Athletics Club and their club for the disabled."
