About 30 members of the Church of Scientology of Los Angeles participated in a Latino Surf and help Heal the Bay Day at Bay Street in Santa Monica Beach recently. The Church of Scientology is working under Heal the Bay - a Santa Monica based environmental organization which is cleaning up the pollution in Santa Monica Bay - and their “Adopt a Beach “ program having signed on to conduct three beach clean ups this year. With this event they have now successfully completed their second clean up. Clean up volunteers included celebrities, actor Jaime Aymerich ( Kirstie Alley’s Fat Actress ) and film producer Aquiles Enriquez (Un Secreto de Esperanza.) Aquiles explained the purpose behind their efforts “We are here to put into practice the precept ‘Safeguard and Improve Your Environment’ from The Way to Happiness booklet a non -religious moral code by author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard. That same precept also encourages one to support environmental organizations which we are doing here with Heal the Bay today.”
Aymerich thoroughly enjoyed the experience “ Heal the Bay has a great program and I think their purpose is helping to heal the planet! As we were cleaning the beach we saw lots of other Latinos here and they admired our efforts and some of them even helped with our trash collection. I am very proud to be setting an example for them as a Latino for keeping our beaches clean.”
The clean up volunteers were all treated to free surfing lessons by members of the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International Surf Club, a well know group of Scientology surfers headed up by former pro surfer Rob Hoover, who has organized beach clean ups for Scientology organizations all over the world. Aymerich was “stoked” (surfer slang for really excited) at having received his first ever surfing experience and is looking forward to more clean ups and surfing this summer.
