Englewood, Colo. – Baxa Corporation is sponsoring a professional presentation discussing the differences between standardized parenteral nutrition (PN) formulations and a standardized process for PN systems. The Exhibitor’s Theatre presentation, “The Pros and Cons of Standardized Parenteral Nutrition,” describes safety issues surrounding the PN nutrition process, and details key research into the benefits and risks of custom vs. standardized PN formulations. The program takes place on Monday, December 3rd at the meeting of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Clinical Meeting at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas.

Presenter Gordon S. Sacks, PharmD, FCCP, BCNSP is currently a Clinical Professor at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, and Chair of the Pharmacy Practice Division in the School of Pharmacy. Active in numerous scientific and professional societies, Dr. Sacks is a member of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) and has held offices in both its national and state organizations. The program builds on Sacks’ knowledge of regulatory and clinical requirements for safe PN systems, providing recommendations for the components of a standardized process and guidance on the roles and responsibilities of pharmacists in promoting best practice.

The complimentary, one-hour educational program will be held Monday, December 3rd in Palazzo Ballroom C, of the Sands Expo Center, beginning at 11:15 AM. Participants are eligible for one credit hour of Pharmacy Continuing Education (CEU).
