July 14, 2005 (PRLEAP.COM) Lifestyle News
The National Alert Registry today announced there are now 4,101 registered sexual offenders living in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area.

Those interested in more specific information can obtain the National Alert Registry’s “Predator Report” by visiting www.RegisteredOffendersList.org. The Predator Report provides the names, photos, aliases, conviction information, offense dates, street addresses and detailed maps with the locations of registered sex offenders nationwide.

With 374,270 identified registered sex offenders living in neighborhoods in the United States, approximately one out of every 792 people nationwide is a registered offender. The average in both Dallas and Fort Worth is higher. Using statistics from the 2000 census, one in every 480 people in Dallas, and one in every 328 people in Fort Worth, is a convicted sex offender.

“These statistics are definitely something people in Dallas and Fort Worth should be aware of and concerned about,” said Flint McGlaughlin, spokesman for the National Alert Registry. “Parents need to know who their children are interacting with each day and who might pose a possible threat to their children’s safety. With so many sex offenders living in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, the more aware parents are, the safer their children will be.”

In addition to information on the locations of registered sex offenders it has identified nationwide, the National Alert Registry Web site also provides information for parents and other concerned adults on how to effectively protect children from becoming a victim to a sexual predator.

Attorney General of Texas, Greg Abbott has been clear in his belief that child sex predators are a serious threat to young Texans. In an October 2003 press release Abbott said, “We all need to do whatever is necessary to make sure these child predators don't leave more victims in their wake.”

More recently he has said, "Texans have a right to know if a sex offender lives in their community.”

To ensure parents and concerned individuals are provided with the most accurate information possible, the Predator Report database (with listings of registered sex offenders in every state) is updated at least once a month.

Parents and other responsible adults can run a free ZIP code-targeted search for the number of registered sexual offenders in their neighborhood by visiting: http://www.RegisteredOffendersList.org. A complete Predator Report of sexual offenders living within a three-mile radius of a resident’s home can also be purchased for $10. Concerned parents can also subscribe to the Red Alert service that will notify them monthly of any new registered offenders that move into their neighborhood. The Red Alert service is available at $4.95 per month.
