Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam – Vietnam is about to be post her flag on the darts world map on September 3rd and 4th of this year as international darters will descend on Ho Chi Minh City for the First Annual Vietnam Open Darts Tournament, which will be sponsored by Johnnie Walker. The tournament will be open to all comers and invitations are being sent out to all official national darts organizations around the world. “We expect to get some of the top class players available for the event as this is a global invitational,” says Blaine Karst, the tournament’s organizer, “and if you aren’t playing but just like strong competitions come anyway. It will be an excellent time to watch some really good darts.”

Organizers are expecting that this will create positive attention for the sport in Vietnam where among the local population it is still a bit of a novelty sport. “Already some of our Ho Chi Minh City league’s best players are Vietnamese, including Tran Thai Dung and Mai Van Luan of the Ice Blue team and the famous “Guppy” Than Duc Liem on my Really Rottens team“ said Gary Dale Cearley, a co-organizer of the event, “we want to attract as many Vietnamese players to this international sport as possible. From what we have seen here in Vietnam, many Vietnamese have a natural talent and could go quite far.”

Although there will be several smaller sponsors, Johnnie Walker will be the main sponsor of the event and the event will carry the Johnnie Walker name. “The support Johnnie Walker has given to darts in Vietnam this year has been phenomenal,” says Karst, “Johnnie Walker’s getting on board with us has allowed our darts league to do things we have never been able to do before, such as this international meet.”

The competition will be held in banquet halls of the historic Majestic Hotel in the heart of district one near the Saigon River. On the first day of competition there will be tests in Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles and Men’s Doubles categories. The following day there will a completion of Saturday’s events and an open triples competition. On the stump night prior to the official competition there will be a fun doubles event for interested participants. Prize money will be won for all top three finishers in all events. There will be a Singles First Place prize guarantee. Broadcast and print media will be on hand to cover the event.
