Lowest-budget Film released on DVD

“Horror! - Gold Edition” tells the story of a film nerd (a guy who spends all his free time watching trashy horror videos) whose world is turned inside-out when creatures from some of these films infest his home town. After his friends are slowly picked off one by one, he needs to use all he has learned from terrible b-movies to stand a chance.

Stu Harrison, who produced the film, says that to make a feature-length movie on such a tiny budget, you need to cut corners.
“The film was shot on digital video rather than on film; and we managed to get friends, rather than professional actors, to star in Horror! Gold Edition”.

Despite the low budget, Horror! Gold Edition was filmed in 6 countries (including South Korea and Serbia) and features the over-the-top special effects expected in this genre. “The sword fighting scene required one character to have a fountain of blood gush from his throat. To achieve this we cut the end off a child’s beach toy and loaded it with the fake blood – red wine. When we pushed the trigger, the “blood” squirted 10 feet in the air. It looked great, but soaked everyone behind the camera!”

Some of the cast and crew have gone on to bigger things – Saara Lamberg, who plays a teenage witch in the film, is now on a theatre tour of England, and the band HypoStatic, who composed the entire soundtrack, are recording a new album in Cuba.

“I have always wanted to make a feature length film” says Harrison, who started out making short comedy films, “and Horror! Gold Edition proves that it is possible for anyone, with $100 and a lot of hard work, to make a movie. I am also proud that Amazon.com has listed the film, it is great to see a large organisation supporting new film makers.”

The production team are now working on their next comedy movie. Details are secret, Harrison says. “All I can say is that the new film is about Capitalism”.
