Index Engines Breaks New Ground in Enterprise Email Search

July 28, 2005 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
HOLMDEL, NJ - Index Engines, a provider of highly scalable indexing solutions, announced today that a beta version of their Microsoft Exchange email indexing appliance is now available for qualified candidates. Inline indexing of email allows for rapid discovery of historical messages and is the basis for enterprise initiatives such as compliance and email archiving. The Index Engines solution is unique as it is scalable in order to support over 32 million messages per appliance, performing full content indexing of email and attachments at unprecedented speeds of 90 megabytes (approximately 5,000 emails) per second and supporting up to 500 simultaneous user queries per second. Appliances can be clustered for comprehensive enterprise wide email indexing supporting over one billion emails, all with sub-second federated search results. The ability to index email is an add-on to the previously announced products that support search on unstructured files such as Microsoft Office documents and Adobe pdf’s.

Searching large volumes of MS Exchange messages is a challenge due to the sheer volume and rate of growth of email in today’s corporate environments. Providing a rapidly deployable solution, with full content and sub second search response will provide knowledge workers and compliance officers with the ability to leverage email as well as unstructured files for improved productivity. The Index Engines email search appliance is an inline indexing solution that plugs into the existing storage area network and indexes Exchange email as well as documents during backup. Leveraging the existing backup process provides for an easily deployable solution as it does not introduce any new processes or administrative procedures.

Users can easily search and find email using Index Engines appliance’s browser based interface. This interface is accessed using their existing network login, assuring that the information they have access to is only the information they are permissioned to see. Using simple keywords, users can query the following fields: To/From/CC/Bcc, Subject, Date, as well as any text contained in the message or the attachment. Additionally, API’s allow companies to take advantage of the index in order to develop value added applications such as rules based processes and policies based on message content.

Qualified candidates will have Microsoft Exchange 2003 email server and a SAN connection with Fibre Channel input utilizing Tivoli, Veritas, or Legato backup software. The beta version of this product is available now; the product will become generally available this fall. Contact Index Engines at info@indexengines.com for more information.

Index Engines is privately funded and is located in Holmdel, New Jersey.
