RNvip.com Reports Modern Bacteria Bug Spreading Through Hospitals, Assisted-Living and Healthcare Facilities

April 16, 2008 (PRLEAP.COM) Health News
RNvip.com, provider of travel nurse employment and jobs today announced that MRSA known as Methicillin - Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus often called “Staph”, is running rapid throughout Hospitals, Assisted Living and long term health-care facilities. MRSA targets individuals with weakened immune systems for example the elderly and individuals who are ill and in the hospital receiving treatments. Young children are often at risk due to immunities.

Healthy individuals can be colonized with the MRSA - Staph bacteria and show little or no signs of having it and can still spread it even if they are not sick themselves. MRSA is spread through contact from an infected wound or cut and often spread from a simple sneeze. Staph- MRSA infections usually start as small red bumps that resemble a pus pimple that eventually can turn into deep painful abscess or boils that can be life threatening and spreading to vital organs such as the heart, bones, tissues and joints.

Ways to stop the spread of the MRSA bacteria, health-care staff such as nurses need to practice proper cleansing techniques with every patient. Wash hands and arms before and after patients. Treat every patient as if they carry the bacteria and regularly sterilize stethoscopes. When assessing patients skin look for signs and symptoms. MRSA can be treated with special antibiotics and be treated but will never get rid of the bacteria itself.
