August 03, 2005 (PRLEAP.COM) Entertainment News
Ana Popovic is an extraordinarily gifted talent born in Yugoslavia, now residing in Holland. This hot, young blues artist is acclaimed in Europe as well as the States. Ana Popovic’s impressive list of awards started in 2002 when she was a three-way nominee for "Best Singer," "Best Guitarist" and "Best Album" at the French Blues Awards. She's the first European ever nominated for "Best New Artist Debut" at the WC Handy Awards in Memphis, USA (2003). In 2004 she was nominated for "Best Blues Album'' at the Jammie Awards in New York City, and won the prestigious Jazz award ''Jazz a Juan Revelations“ in Juan-Les-Pins, France.

ANA! Live in Amsterdam her third release with Ruf Records is in stores this week. It was recorded live on January 30th, 2005 at the Melkweg in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

I’m Here To Steal The Show is the refrain from her first song “Don’t Bear Down On Me,” and it’s also Ana’s motto for live performances. And indeed, that’s what she does! 29-year-old Ana Popovic proves with her own songs and fresh interpretations that she is a star-on-the-rise. Ana’s award-winning music extends even beyond contemporary blues — she stands for modern and cross-border blues with rock, soul and jazz elements.

This lady sure does play mean and moody wah-wah guitar — Caleb, Blues Matters

Well if you can’t make Ana’s live show, this would be the next best thing. Throughout the recording you can feel/hear her energy. This is a hard hittin’ rockin’ blues CD that is far from the standard – it’s new, different, hardcore and intense. I liked it, and rate it 4.5 out of a possible 5. – Peter Cohen, STLBlues.net
